In this five-week online course, learners will be introduced to strategies for creating an overall infant-toddler daily schedule that is predictable yet flexible, identify the elements of an infant-toddler daily routine, and learn how to modify routines over time as children grow and develop. This is a learning event for beginners in the HighScope Curriculum and sets a strong foundation for other HighScope courses such as Infants and Toddler Group Times and Intentional Lesson Planning for Infants and Toddlers.

By the end of this learning event, learners will be able to:

  • Connect the ingredients of active learning to the components of a daily routine for infants and toddlers.
  • Identify responsive adult support strategies.
  • Name the components of a HighScope infant-toddler daily routine.
  • Create a routine that aligns with individual children’s needs and rhythms.
  • Describe how to introduce planning and recall times to older toddlers.

Learner Requirements:

Learners must complete all assignments within the learning event’s timeframe. This includes weekly learning units, reading assignments, Check My Understanding quizzes, discussion posts, and Try It Out assignments. Learners must pass each Check My Understanding with a minimum of 80% or higher and achieve a total overall score for the learning event of 80% or higher for full credit.

Online instructional activities may be started and stopped at the participant’s leisure over each week, allows learners to complete coursework combined along with and informed by teaching. Learners will need access to a computer with sound and internet access to complete weekly assignments. It is recommended to use the Google Chrome internet browser when navigating through the course.
