Key Components of the Preschool STEM Kit:
80 Engaging Activities:
The Preschool STEM Kit contains four activity booklets, one for each area of STEM. Each booklet contains 20 activities designed to provide active learning throughout the daily routine through age-appropriate STEM learning. Activities include vocabulary lists with child-friendly definitions, additional ideas for learning and practice, sequence of development charts, and more.
Teacher’s Guide:
This guide serves as a resource for educators using the Preschool STEM Kit in their classrooms, providing all the information they need about the kit’s contents and STEM learning in preschool. The teacher’s guide introduces HighScope’s STEM Early Learning Goals and offers strategies for embedding STEM throughout the daily routine, creating a STEM-rich classroom environment, and using supportive adult-child interactions to extend children’s thinking.
Family Activity Book:
This booklet helps families extend STEM learning at home with 20 easy-to-follow, take-home activities — five for each area of STEM. The booklet is designed to support classroom-home partnerships, including a family newsletter and strategies for working with families.
STEM Read-Alouds:
The kit also contains eight read-aloud activity booklets, each focused on an area of STEM learning. Each booklet comprises multiple read-aloud activities for repeated readings of each book. In addition, each activity includes vocabulary words from the text with child-friendly definitions, suggested stopping points for teachers, and ideas for what educators might say to engage children in the reading process to support children’s comprehension skills. A read-aloud teacher’s guide is also included to support teachers’ successful use of the read-aloud activity booklets in their classroom.
