HighScope Certification & Accreditation

HighScope certification and accreditation recognizes teachers, trainers, and programs who have met the high bar of quality HighScope sets in providing early education and training through the HighScope educational approach and curriculum. Achieving HighScope certification indicates to families that their children receive among the very best education available.

CERTIFIED TEACHER
about

Certified Teacher

Teachers who are devoted to providing high-quality experiences while implementing the HighScope Curriculum (Infant-Toddler and/or Preschool) are encouraged to apply for teacher certification. HighScope Certified Teachers have achieved a professional standard that results in superior outcomes for the children they serve.

Educators become eligible for HighScope Teacher Certification through the completion of one of the five-week HighScope Curriculum Courses and the subsequent demonstration of high-quality curriculum implementation.

Become A HighScope Certified Teacher:

Complete the appropriate training or equivalent training/experience
Demonstrate high-quality curriculum implementation
Demonstrate knowledge of the COR Advantage assessment
Complete daily lesson planning as a team
Complete a small-group and large-group lesson plan
Provide a professional development narrative
Complete the Teacher Certification Application and other required forms

How Long Does Certification Last?

Once teacher certification is achieved, the credential is active for a period of three years. To obtain recertification, the certified teacher must demonstrate their maintenance of high-quality HighScope curriculum implementation through the updated submission of the original certification requirements before their current certification expires.

CERTIFIED TRAINER

Certified Trainer

In order for programs to extend their implementation of the HighScope Curriculum, staff may participate in the Training of Trainers (ToT) course to fulfill the requirements associated with trainer certification. Those who complete the ToT course and its associated requirements will receive the credential of HighScope Certified Trainer. HighScope Certified Trainers help to maintain the high teaching standards associated with the HighScope Curriculum by delivering workshops, providing observation and feedback, and offering coaching services to their colleagues/agency.

To Become A Certified Trainer:

Complete the Preschool Curriculum Course (PCC) or Infant-Toddler Curriculum Course (ITCC)
Present curriculum content workshops and model key elements of the HighScope Daily Routine
Exhibit mentorship and leadership while working with a training classroom on implementing the HighScope Curriculum
Observe children and teachers working together and conduct coaching activities involving observation/feedback

Duration of Certification & Next Steps

Once trainer certification is achieved, the credential is active for a period of three years. To maintain certification, the certified trainer must demonstrate their maintenance of high-quality HighScope curriculum training by continuing their personal professional development and maintaining records of training and coaching services provided.

ACCREDITED PROGRAM

Accredited Program

Programs become eligible for accreditation once all lead teachers have obtained HighScope Teacher Certification. Programs whose lead teachers have obtained certification and who provide high-quality implementation of the HighScope Curriculum are encouraged to apply for HighScope Program Accreditation. HighScope Accredited Programs demonstrate to families that they provide superior outcomes for the children they serve.

Become a HighScope Accredited Program:

Ensure that all lead teachers have achieved HighScope certifation
Achieve an average score of 4.0 or higher on the PQA Form B, administered by a HighScope Certified Trainer contracted through the HighScope Foundation
Provide a current government license or certificate
Complete an application along with the required forms

Duration of Accreditation & Next Steps

Once program accreditation is achieved, the credential is active for a period of three years. To maintain accreditation, the program must demonstrate their maintenance of high-quality HighScope curriculum implementation through the updated submission of the original accreditation requirements before their current credential expires.

TRAINER RECERTIFICATION

Trainer Recertification

HighScope’s Trainer Certification credential is active for a period of three
years. To maintain certification, trainers must demonstrate their commitment to personal and professional growth through the documentation of high-quality training and coaching activities and ongoing professional development. To obtain recertification, trainers must provide an updated submission of the original certification requirements before their current certification expires.
