The DIA Kids Program provides preschool children and their families an opportunity to visit the DIA for gallery viewing and an art-making experience.
The HighScope development team provided a high-level review of all materials in 2022 and is continuing to support development for the program. The HighScope research team is conducting an evaluation of the program (2022-2027).
The main goals of the project are to:

1. Provide 400 participants (children, caregivers, and teachers) (3-4 preschools from Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties, up to 12 schools annually) per year with access to the DIA. The DIA is committed to recruiting at 50% of the participants from repeat schools and 50% from new schools.
2. Sustain and enhance DIA KIDS as an early childhood art program that is child-centered, developmentally appropriate, and encourages active learning.

3. Support young children’s artmaking and engagement by increasing the frequency of art experiences at home and at school, improving the quality of art experiences at home and at school, and children’s future access to the DIA and other cultural institutions.
4. Conduct an evaluation of the program each year based on the project year focus, to measure program goals, monitor for continuous improvement, and ultimately develop a DIA KIDS Legacy Plan that ensures sustainability of program implementation and quality over time.
