This five-day training is designed to introduce preschool staff to the essential components of the HighScope Preschool Curriculum. These components include active learning and the Key Developmental Indicators, adult-child interactions, the learning environment, the daily routine, and lesson planning which will give teachers a start in providing high-quality experiences for their young children. A copy of Essentials of Active Learning 2^nd Ed., Revised is provided to all learners. This is a hybrid learning event, taking place on HighScope’s online learning platform with regular Zoom sessions.

 By the end of this learning event, learners will be able to:

• Identify the ingredients of active learning and factors of intrinsic motivation.
• Identify the elements of adult support.
• Discuss and apply the guidelines for arranging and equipping the indoor play space.
• Discuss the rationale for a consistent, balanced daily routine.
• Identify why we have key developmental indicators (KDIs).
• Discuss the importance of observing children.
• Construct lesson plans for children by combining knowledge about curriculum content, children’s developmental levels and interests.
• Explain the advantages and rationale for working together as a team in early childhood settings.

Learner Requirements:

Learners are required to participate in all Zoom sessions and activities. Learners will complete a Check My Understanding quiz each day and will need to achieve a score 80% or higher for successful course completion. Upon successful completion of this learning event, learners will receive IACET CEUs and a certificate of completion.

Important Information…. 

• Course Registration closes two weeks before classes start.  Late registrations cannot be accepted.
• If paying by PO, please complete online registration for all of your participants, and send in a copy of your web order with your PO to fulfillment@highscope.org.
• Participants will receive their welcome email with login instructions 1-2 days before class starts.
• Please provide a current email address to enable course communication.
• HighScope will grant refunds (minus the cost of student materials) to students only if they withdraw from the course prior to its start. Cancellation must be received by email to fulfillment@highscope.org.
