This is week one of a four-week (120 hour) training course designed to lay the foundation for understanding the HighScope Preschool Curriculum and support teachers in implementing the curriculum in the classroom.
By the end of week one of PCC, learners will be able to:
- List the five ingredients of active learning, explain the role of adults in an active learning setting, and identify how active learning contributes to brain development in children during play.
- State the purpose of HighScope’s Key Developmental Indicators (KDIs) and give an example of how they are used to support children’s development.
- Describe the key guidelines for arranging an indoor play space for young children and identify types of materials that encourage the development of specific skills.
- Explain the benefits of a consistent daily routine for children’s development and develop a sample daily schedule that incorporates all five elements of active learning.
- List the key elements of a high-quality early childhood education program.
You must complete all assignments on time and in the order they are listed. Upon successful completion (80% or higher) of all training, daily readings, assignments, and Check My Understanding quizzes for this week, Participants receive 3 IACET CEUs.
