Establishing relationships with children and families is an essential element of acclimating children to a new environment. This requires balancing children's individual needs and supporting their developing familiarity to a new situation. Through discussion and hands-on activities, this session will focus on strategies for recognizing the perspective of new children; proactively preparing for a new child's arrival; learning about a new child's temperament, needs, abilities, and interests; and creating emergent daily plans to facilitate a smooth transition into group care or a new classroom.
