This workshop provides hands-on experience in observing, recording, and evaluating program quality using HighScope’s Preschool Program Quality Assessment (PQA) instrument.
Michigan GSRP Programs:
The Program Quality Assessment (PQA) is used to evaluate all Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) classrooms. Because it is critical that reliable and valid data is entered into each PQA, GSRP Early Childhood Specialists (ECS) must receive formal training in the tool. The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) strongly recommends participation in online PQA training. Unlike a face-to-face workshop, participants in HighScope's online courses are required to complete and turn in assignments to a HighScope facilitator. Facilitators examine each participants work and then provide coaching and support to help each participant learn to apply the content. Face-to-face courses provide fewer opportunities for colleagues to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
GSRP Early Childhood Specialists must have formal PQA training. MDE is defining formal PQA training as training implemented by HighScope Field Consultants or HighScope Staff. The training will have used the HighScope PQA Training Agenda and resulted in a Certificate of Completion from the HighScope Educational Research Foundation.
Any ECS who is not currently a reliable assessor must complete the online training and examination.
