Kristen McDonald is Vice President, Program and Policy, for The Skillman Foundation. In that role, she guides the overall strategy for all of Skillman’s program work, whose mission is to ensure that Detroit students are better prepared to graduate from high school ready for college, career, and life. Previously, she served as Program Director of Education at The Skillman Foundation. In that role, Ms. McDonald was responsible for leadership and management of Skillman’s education grantmaking, primarily targeted at schools in Detroit.
Prior to her work at The Skillman Foundation, Ms. McDonald served as Chief of Staff to State Superintendent of Schools Mike Flanagan. She also has worked extensively in the policy field of early childhood education and was one of the chief architects of the Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC) and the Great Start system, Michigan’s system of education and care for children from birth to kindergarten.
Ms. McDonald is married and the mother and stepmother of six children.
