Looking to learn more about the HighScope approach and preschool curriculum? This online course will teach you how to use the HighScope resources, Essentials of Active Learning in Preschool by Ann S. Epstein and Let’s Play and Learn Together! 30 At-Home Activities to Share With Families by Tricia S. Kruse.

Essentials: Series 4 will focus on the following content topics:

• Reviewing Let’s Play and Learn Together! 30 At-Home Activities to Share With Families
• Child and Program Assessment
• Working with Staff

In a HighScope classroom, work time the “do” part of plan-do-review is when children carry out their plans, play, and solve problems. In this workshop you will learn:

• The “basics” of work time, including work time dos and don’ts
• That work time is a time for active learning
• What children do at work time, including the four types of play they engage in
• How adults support children at work time, including strategies for supporting and scaffolding children’s learning

This workshop will help you transform your large-group time (also called circle times) into a fun and meaningful part of your day. If you want to learn how to bring children and adults together for action songs, cooperative games and projects, movement activities, storytelling, and more, then you should consider this workshop. You will learn how to implement shared control during large-group time, the format for an appropriate large-group time, and how to develop appropriate large-group time activities and plans.

Led by a HighScope facilitator, this four-week online training requires teachers to work about three hours per week. Upon completion, participants will be able to identify COR Advantage categories, items and indicators. Video clips and expert instruction will teach participants how to collect and accurately score complete and objective evidence. Strategies to engage families in the child assessment process will be reviewed. Essentials: Series 1 will focus on the following content topics:

• Active Learning
• Adult-Child Interactions
• Learning Environment
• Daily Routine

Participants will learn how to implement the principles and practices of these content topics within the preschool classroom. Each week participants will complete chapter readings, “check my understanding” questions, discussion forums, and live Zoom meetings with peers and facilitators. Connecting with teachers and other early childhood professionals to discuss the basic principles of the HighScope Curriculum and share implementation ideas will be a focused mode of learning for participants. The Digging Into HighScope Resources — Essentials has four Series and you can choose which series is best for you. They can be taken in any order.
